What is this space?

Somewhere in Between is a blog. But for the purposes of being uppity and abstract, let’s call it my digital “studio”.

Like any self respecting person with an artistic inclination, I aspire to one day have my own physical studio in a down trodden alley way in a soon to be gentrified neighborhood.

Due to resource constrains and a lack of any signification reputation (read: not rich and famous yet), this website will have to suffice for now.

Sarcasm and jokes aside—this year (2024), I am working on a book. I view such an endeavor as a runner does when they prepare for the marathon. I will need to work at this a lot and practice regularly.

That’s what this space is for. As I work on the book, I’ll be writing regularly on different subjects and in different forms to keep my writing muscles growing and to give me another outlet during the process.

What’s in it for you?

Consider Somewhere in Between like a “variety show” newsletter with different topics, perspectives, and writing styles.

Many of us subscribe to publications and consume content along very specific lines. That is great for advancing our careers and depth of knowledge in a specific area.

However, I believe that there is also value in mixing it up to satisfy our basic sense of curiosity and desire for serendipity, in an otherwise routine-oriented and linear world.

With that, I hope you enjoy this space!

Thank you for time and support.

Note: Readers can expect to receive new posts every couple of weeks but I won’t rush to compromise a good piece — as a mentor of mine often repeated to me “let the game come to you”.

Who am I?

My name is Dakota Sinder.

I am the author of Somewhere in Between.

I am half Indonesian and half American.

But if you really drill down, there’s a bit of Chinese, Russian, Hungarian, and more in my blood.

I’ve been told that my family has roots around the world. I am both Jewish & Muslim. Yes, that’s correct; I was raised with both faiths and cultures.

I was born between being a Millennial and Generation Z in Berkeley, CA but moved to Jakarta, Indonesia when I was two years old. I lived there until I graduated High School.

I then moved to Washington, DC for college.

After graduating, I moved to New York to work in the sports and entertainment industry.

After several years working in different parts of the industry, I am now on a career sabbatical to focus on writing the aforementioned book, work on some other personal projects, travel, and take some classes.
