Triple Bottom Line Diet

Triple Bottom Line Diet

What is the triple bottom line (TBL) approach? It is a framework that suggests that businesses should focus not only on profit (1st bottom line) but also on people (2nd bottom line) and the planet (3rd bottom line). With rising consumer awareness of the interconnectedness and impact of business around the world, companies have begun preaching TBL as part of their long term growth strategy.

But have you heard of the TBL Diet*? Probably, not. The TBL Diet is my approach to making food decisions. We are often really good at using a double bottom line approach to making food choices. We think about how much food costs (profit) and how it will affect our health (people), but we often fail to consider how sustainable our food choices are (planet). Without going into a debate about what you should or shouldn’t eat (I am not an expert!), try considering the TBL approach when making food choices. You’ll be surprised by the environmental impact your choices can have (Water Usage Example Here).

*Diet is being defined as a lifestyle change; not a temporary adjustment.
